English Literature (4ELO)

In the Edexcel International GCSE English Literature course you will examine some works of English literature and analyse the styles and techniques used by the authors.

The Edexcel International GCSE English Literature course will give you an appreciation of how writers use form, structure and language to achieve particular effects and will enhance your enjoyment of reading.

Your study should help you develop a range of skills that can lead onto A Level and further studies in English Literature, and could lead to a career in one of its associated fields.

In your first examined unit, you will explore the novel Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck and the play An Inspector Calls by J.B. Priestley. In your study, you will examine how writing styles may vary according to time and place, and explore now each writer presents their themes, plots and characterisation.

As you progress to your second Edexcel International GCSE unit, your study of English Literature will also see you looking at a range of poetry from different historical periods. You will be able to compare the varied forms and structures that exist in this broad form of literature. You will also be required to respond to unseen prose or poetry texts.
